Legend tells of a blade forged in ancient times, in a unique moment of peace among the Mortals and Immortals of Torân. The sword was forged from the metals for the Dwarves, tempered by the strength of the Ogres, with the art of the Elves, and was enchanted by wizards from each of the races and blessed by each of the Younger. The resulting blade-Verak da'Nolim, or The Sword of Power-was probably the most powerful artifact Torân will ever see.

Verak da'Nolim-or the Sword of Power-was forged in ancient times, in a unique moment of peace among the Mortals and Immortals of Torân. It was forged from the metals for the Dwarves, tempered by the strength of the Ogres, with the art of the Elves, and was enchanted by wizards from each of the races and blessed by each of the Younger. The blade was said to have a keen intelligence, but no will-thus it bent to its owner's desires. Some say that makes this the most powerful artifact in known history.
The Sword was given to Alkim da'Koren as a sign of grattitude for his part in bringing peace to the world.
Alkim da'Koren never let the blade leave his side or sight. It was speculated that he did not trust anyone else to have it... or perhaps he did not trust the Sword, itself. Either way, there were those who coveted the sword, chiefly among them was Naljim da'Morin.
As can be expected among mortals and fickle gods, the peace was short-lived. This time, however, history was slightly different. It was not the Mortals who ended the peace, but the Younger. What started from unintentional slights and insults quickly raged into an all-out Godswar.
Alkim da'Morin was mourning the death of his brother, Belwick da'Madji, at the sight of one of the battles, when the remaining brother chose to take advantage of the confusion the Godswar was causing. He intended to sneak up on the Bringer, kill him and take the Sword of Power.
The bond between the blade and it's master, however alerted Alkim to the danger, and he sprang to action, commiting himself to the one thing Naljim had not taken into consideration: He brought Verak da'Nolim to bare.
The three day battle that ensued was frightening and deadly to any within miles. The two were of the same being and were equal in skill and power. Just as each thrust was parried by the other, each bolt of lightning was parried by equally deadly magic. Finally, after three days of incessant combat, the Sword of Power bit into Naljim's flesh.
AS the the immortal essence was pulled away from Naljim's body, his screams and howls were terrible to hear... The last thing he was able to shriek was a curse... and a promise that he would return to have Torân or destroy it.
Sickened at the gruesome death of his last brother, Alkim da'Koren snapped the now-tainted Sword of Power in two and he spoke.
At first, his words were a mere whisper, but every soul on Torân heard his words and understood their import.
"Here ends the Godswar. Those who have died shall remain as spirits, tied to the Cornerstone as Guardians of the law I will etch into the Stone. Those of the Younger who yet live will live in Judgement until the day of Breaking, when all Law is shattered and the Guardians are reborn among the peoples."
Alkim da'Koren then opened a gateway to the Great Pillar, and using the Verak da'Nolim's shattered blade, he carved the new Laws into the very Cornerstone of Creation.
He then took the shattered artifact and scattered it about the world.
When the Breaking comes, that blade will be whole again, and the one imprisoned within will be free. On that day, only ones from Outside will be able to stop the wielder of the Sword, fro all of this world are bound to it's Law. If the Darkness is to be stopped, those from outside must be summoned by mortal and immortal as one, else the cry will go unheard.
"My presence here now overthrows the very balance I strive to maintain." Using a magic woven of arcane, divine, and a power unique to the Younger and the Three, Alkim channeled a spell through the Pillar itself. "The final Law," he said sadly, "is for myself, and for the protection of Law and Creation, until Judgement is complete.
As the Bringer of Light faded from Torân and into legend and myth, the Law of Closing was graven upon the Cornerstone, sealing the peoples in and dealing Outsiders from Torân.
